What do Periodontists do?

A periodontist is a dental specialist who has additional training in preventing, diagnosing, and treating of periodontal disease – a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the gums and bones that support your teeth. In addition, periodontists are involved in the treatment and replacement of lost teeth and gum recession.

A periodontist works closely with your dentist to ensure you receive optimal care in your periodontal or implant treatment. In addition to commonly treating challenging periodontal and implant cases, periodontists also provide other specialized treatments including scaling and root planing, oral inflammation treatment, and cosmetic periodontal procedures.
